EDITOR'S NOTE

Dear Marvelous Musicians,

This Fall Journal is the second of three issues that will celebrate where we have been and then look forward to challenging you to serve the greater mission of enlivening music and worship in our churches. It will be available to all UCC churches across this land as an anniversary gift.

We are very excited to offer you our second Anniversary Commission of an SAB anthem by Dr. Peter Niedmann, who was one of two selected to write pieces just for you and your choirs. I hope you will copy it and use it in your churches. The other anthem was given to you in the Summer 2023 issue – look it up and use it. Please take advantage of them as a gift from the UCCMA and spread them to other churches.

For many of us, during the Fall season, we begin again to ramp up our musical activities after relaxing during the summer months. Articles about the upcoming holidays and observances are here, along with other suggestions that might prove thought-provoking. Many thanks to those who have written for us and provided valuable resources and information for your use.

As it is said to preface each issue in this column, I want to hear how we can better serve you:

● What topics do you want to read about?

● Who’s voice would you like to hear speaking to you?

● What kinds of music are you interested in?

● What recommendations could you give your fellow musicians?

● Do you have something you wish to write about?

● Do you create music or worship materials to share with our readers?

● Do you know someone worth highlighting as a writer or composer?

Please let me know. I really do want to hear from you and have you participate in the process.

As we continue to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and open our journals to everyone and anyone who wishes to peruse them, please know that what you do for your church communities is invaluable and irreplaceable. We cannot overstate the importance of music in the worship setting and how it brings congregants closer to God. Also, the experience of participating in a musical group increases the joy and well-being of everyone involved. The UCCMA wants to ensure you are not alone in providing that experience for your congregations and musicians.

CROSSES

The Cross of St. Peter is "a cross with the crossbeam placed near the foot, that is associated with Saint Peter because of the tradition that he was crucified head down."
